Yuvraj Singh has been ruled out from the remaining matches of the WT20 and it comes as a serious blow for team India just before the semi-final against West Indies on 31st March 2016. Yuvraj has been an integral part of the team since making his comeback to the International Cricket in T20 Series against Australia. Yuvraj Singh’s performance in the series may not have been extra-ordinary but he has played his part as an all-rounder and a mentor for the young Indian Squad pretty well. His contribution has been very crucial in crunch situations as we saw in the games against Pakistan and Australia where he provided the stability to the line-up when wickets were falling quickly. In both the matches, he built crucial partnership with Virat Kohli to seal the team through to victory. Yuvraj Singh has always been a player of tough character and we saw that in the match against Australia as he played through the pain after hurting his ankle during the game. The injury couldn’t stop him from making his contribution in the game and setting up the path towards victory for team India as they defeated Australia by 6 wickets to book a place in the Semi-Final against West Indies. Yuvraj played his part with the ball too as he slowed down the run rate of Australia and bowled with an economy of 6.33 as well as picking up the crucial wicket of Steve Smith. India will miss Yuvraj Singh a lot in the coming matches not only because of his contribution with bat and ball but also as a leader and a motivator on the field. The void left by him would be hard to fill but Ajinkya Rahane or Manish Pandey would be confident of grabbing the chance and performing efficiently in Yuvraj Singh’s absence. Manish Pandey would have been surprised not to see his name in the World Cup squad after his brilliant century in the last ODI between India and Australia. Now, called in as a replacement for Yuvraj Singh, he would be eager to prove his worth yet again. He will be given a tough competition for the place in the Playing Eleven by Ajinkya Rahane who too has found chances hard to come by in this World Cup. Both Rahane and Pandey have a similar playing style but Rahane tends to be more sensible with the selection of shots in tricky situations. Rahane’s experience and composure might give him an advantage over Pandey but it would be interesting to see who Dhoni selects for the next match as the middle order has been inconsistent throughout the tournament till now and the pressure will be high on Rahane and Pandey to perform well when called. How India will cope up in the absence of Yuvraj Singh will be seen in the match against West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday but spirits will be high throughout the game as India would look to reach the second consecutive final of the WT20. We all wish Yuvraj Singh a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in action very quickly. author
