In an age where the dynamics of motorsport are fast changing, quite like the sound of the 'new age' super cool newbie Turbo engines, it pays to be a Mercedes driver. And you don't have to literally ask Niki Lauda, the wise old Non Executive front-man at the team's brain centre.

The opening race of the 2016 Formula 1 season in Australia saw a fantastic race in which Nico Rosberg won ahead of team mate Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. The race witnessed a mixed debut by Haas F1 Team as their driver Romain Grosjean finished 6th while a horror crash between McLaren’s Fernando Alonso and Haas’ Esteban Gutiérrez resulted in both the drivers crashing out with Alonso suffering a rib injury which has ruled him out of the Bahrain GP. The race started off well for Ferrari as both Vettel and Räikkönen overtook the two Mercedes to lead the race, but an Engine problem forced Räikkönen out of the race and a poor tyre strategy forced Vettel to settle for 3rd Position with Mercedes continuing from where they left off last season as they finished with a One Two. Daniel Ricciardo finished his home Grand Prix in the fourth position but had the fastest lap recorded in the race. The race also saw a new “Elimination” Qualifying format which was criticised heavily by the drivers. After the Australian GP, F1 now moves to Bahrain for the twelfth edition of Bahrain GP which will be held on 3rd April. The highly criticised “Elimination” Qualifying format was abandoned after the teams voted against it but just a week after the Australian GP, the Strategy Working team of Formula 1 chose to keep the elimination format for the Bahrain GP and subject to a more thorough review of the format ahead of the Chinese GP. This decision was not welcomed by the drivers and the team. McLaren’s Fernando Alonso will be missing the race through a rib injury he suffered after the crash with Esteban Gutiérrez and as a result has been replaced by McLaren’s Reserve Driver Stoffel Vandoorne. Mercedes will be looking to continue their domination as the two drivers proved to be too strong for others in the Australian GP even after a slow start to the race which took Nico Rosberg behind the two Ferraris and Lewis Hamilton down to 6th place, but they crawled their way up to the top helped by a poor tyre strategy by Ferrari for Sebastian Vettel, smart driving by the two drivers and an efficient use of the powerful Mercedes engine. Ferrari would be hoping to learn from their mistakes this time around and you can expect an exciting battle between Mercedes and Ferrari with the latter looking to close the gap between them and Mercedes. Australian GP proved to be a very exciting race with some quality driving from the likes of Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo. Even the young drivers Carlos Sainz, Max Verstappen and Jolyon Palmer drove extremely well and fought hard for the final championship points. You can expect a similar or even more exciting Bahrain GP in the coming weekend which can help the teams in building a foundation for the remaining races of the season. author
